Dave "Sky" Skyberg #14

After arriving at Mountain Home AFB in 1975, I started attending races at the Super Oval and Meridian. I loved the Super Six class as it was much like the six cylinder modifieds I watched as a kid in South Dakota. I moved to Kuna in 1985 and worked with Pat Quinn. He had just started Super Six racing and in 1987 I purchased Ernie Hopkins’s car. It was in poor condition so I rebuilt it over the winter and at age 46, I went racing.

I raced four years and always finished in the top 10 with 1990 being my best year ending in second place over all. The Quinns, Steve Hake, Steve Hopkins and others helped me get started. Dean Waltman also worked with Pat and me at Telco Electronics and he got involved with us. I sold my roadster in 1992 and left racing. I did run a race occasionally until Jasen, my son, finally got me involved again in 2008.

I’m having a great time restoring dead ISRL cars and racing them. I’m not nearly as good a driver as I once was but I’m still having fun. I have my original roadster back, a basket case, which I’ll restore and race in a couple years.
